CLUMPED ISOTOPE LAB: FACILITIES AND MEASUREMENT
The CIL has two mass spectrometers for the measurement of clumped isotopes:
Thermo Scientic™ MAT 253 IRMS for clumped isotopes in CO2
This instrument is connected to a vacuum line dedicated to sample preparation and purification and a gas chromatography setup.
Measurements on that platform: δ13C, δ18O and Δ47 of CO2 (as a primary analyte or from acid digestion of carbonate minerals).
Thermo Scientific™ ULTRA High Resolution IRMS
One of the few HR-IRMS worldwide, able to separate ion beams that have the same cardinal mass and enabling the study of methane clumped isotopes. A vacuum line with oil-less pumping is dedicated to sample preparation.
We are developing the following measurements on that platform: δ13C, δD, Δ13CDH3 and Δ12CD2H2 of methane.
